Our first order of bamboo that we imported from Vietnam came to us un-sanded and uncleaned. We had specified that we wanted it sanded and cleaned, but have come to realize that message was lost in translation. This video portrays the process of sanding the bamboo, which after hundreds of poles can become very monotonous and somewhat boring. In the video TanSnowMan's mind wanders into a ninja fantasy in which he is a sanding Nin Jiutsu master. Panda Poles are hand crafted in the Wasatch! Supreme Excellence Indeed! Hai Yah!

Here's an idea... Take a barren piece of desert land. Build a jenky, temporary village. Fill with eclectic art and music. Cut loose three thousand art and music fanatics on the place. Prepare for wind. Head to the beach...
Panda Poles tags along with The Solar Saucer Cosmonauts (jenkstar.com) at the Jenkstar Ranch in Green River, UT for the 2012 Desert Rocks Music Festival: Celebrating Consciousness! Presented by Jenkstar Productions and Conscientia Productions.

Here's to freedom! This footage is from the Independence Day Parade in Park City, Utah, with the Solar Saucer Cosmonauts and Panda Poles Chief TanSnowMan behind the wheel.

After a streak of parade wins--taking "Best in Show" at two of Utah's top 20 largest parades--Scotty Soltronic and The Solar Saucer Cosmonauts have made it to "The Big Time". We catch up with Soltron at their new crib to talk about their success as paraders, being at the front of the pack, and what it's like to raise the bar. TanSnowMan--member of the Cosmonauts--takes us into his chaotic world of Cosmonaut P.R. and shows how he is also poised to help raise the bar even higher...

Sustainable living is in large part the reason that Panda Poles was ever dreamed up, yet manufacturing ski poles is not all that we do to promote Earth-friendly living. When the snow has melted and Summer has come, Panda Poles Chief Tansnowman steps away from the bamboo sanding belt for just a moment to put his energy into solar event production, helping to produce events that promote sustainable living and community. Along with Panda Team Captain Oakley White-Allen, Tansnowman and Panda Poles joined the Solar Saucer Cosmonauts at the Jenkstar Ranch in Green River, UT for the event "Building Man--Sustainable Living Arts and Music Festival", held during a week in May over the last three years.

All the music and lights for the entire event are run off Solar Power for the 4 nights of the festival, with sustainability workshops such as building with Earthen materials, desert water catchment, and making solar ovens scheduled during each day. Discussions covering topics such as aquaponics and permaculture are held at Swasey Beach along the banks of the Green River each afternoon. From scrap wood and metal lassoed from a trash heap and turned into an old west saloon facade, to washing machine chandeliers, almost the entire infrastructure of the Jenkstar Ranch is made of reclaimed or found objects, repurposed into art. This process in essence produces "Jenk", turning junk into something with soul and purpose. Of the building materials which are not found in the trash, bamboo is a key building block at the Ranch and in most Jenkstar Productions. Jenkstar Ranch hosts 2 Sustainable Living events each year, with one in the Spring (Building Man) and one in the Fall (Melon Nights). Read the full story behind the birth of Building Man on Catalyst Magazine

Also joining OWA and Tansnowman this year were Panda tribe members Angel Collinson and Chuck Mumford, who added their own beauty and high vibes to the event. Lead by Scotty Soltronic, the Solar Saucer Cosmonauts are a group of artists, visionaries, and builders, dedicated to inspiring others to leave this planet better than they found it.  For more information about the Solar Saucer or Jenkstar Ranch, please visit the website jenkstar.com or join them on Facebook, and we hope to see you at one of our events in the near future.

05-30-12 | EPIC SORT

Posted by Tanner Rosenthal

What is the first step of hand crafting bamboo ski poles? Sorting... Epic, slow-mo sorting... The bamboo in this video is from Panda Poles' very first imported batch of bamboo from Vietnam that we received last fall. Due to a language barrier and other miscommunications, we received a batch of 5,000 poles, only 20% of which were within our specifications. This left 4,000 poles to be sorted out and stowed until finding another purpose. A learning experience indeed, but alas, an epic sort!
Panda Poles is currently running a special on raw, uncleaned, unfinished bamboo poles (spec: 50" x .5"-1" dia.) for only $1.00/pole! These poles are ideal for garden stakes, martial arts, and more! Please contact tansnowman@pandapoles.com ortai@pandapoles.com for more info...
