06-22-12 | PANDA POLES @ BUILDING MAN 2012
Sustainable living is in large part the reason that Panda Poles was ever dreamed up, yet manufacturing ski poles is not all that we do to promote Earth-friendly living. When the snow has melted and Summer has come, Panda Poles Chief Tansnowman steps away from the bamboo sanding belt for just a moment to put his energy into solar event production, helping to produce events that promote sustainable living and community. Along with Panda Team Captain Oakley White-Allen, Tansnowman and Panda Poles joined the Solar Saucer Cosmonauts at the Jenkstar Ranch in Green River, UT for the event "Building Man--Sustainable Living Arts and Music Festival", held during a week in May over the last three years.
All the music and lights for the entire event are run off Solar Power for the 4 nights of the festival, with sustainability workshops such as building with Earthen materials, desert water catchment, and making solar ovens scheduled during each day. Discussions covering topics such as aquaponics and permaculture are held at Swasey Beach along the banks of the Green River each afternoon. From scrap wood and metal lassoed from a trash heap and turned into an old west saloon facade, to washing machine chandeliers, almost the entire infrastructure of the Jenkstar Ranch is made of reclaimed or found objects, repurposed into art. This process in essence produces "Jenk", turning junk into something with soul and purpose. Of the building materials which are not found in the trash, bamboo is a key building block at the Ranch and in most Jenkstar Productions. Jenkstar Ranch hosts 2 Sustainable Living events each year, with one in the Spring (Building Man) and one in the Fall (Melon Nights). Read the full story behind the birth of Building Man on Catalyst Magazine.
Also joining OWA and Tansnowman this year were Panda tribe members Angel Collinson and Chuck Mumford, who added their own beauty and high vibes to the event. Lead by Scotty Soltronic, the Solar Saucer Cosmonauts are a group of artists, visionaries, and builders, dedicated to inspiring others to leave this planet better than they found it. For more information about the Solar Saucer or Jenkstar Ranch, please visit the website jenkstar.com or join them on Facebook, and we hope to see you at one of our events in the near future.
05-30-12 | EPIC SORT
What is the first step of hand crafting bamboo ski poles? Sorting... Epic, slow-mo sorting... The bamboo in this video is from Panda Poles' very first imported batch of bamboo from Vietnam that we received last fall. Due to a language barrier and other miscommunications, we received a batch of 5,000 poles, only 20% of which were within our specifications. This left 4,000 poles to be sorted out and stowed until finding another purpose. A learning experience indeed, but alas, an epic sort!
Panda Poles is currently running a special on raw, uncleaned, unfinished bamboo poles (spec: 50" x .5"-1" dia.) for only $1.00/pole! These poles are ideal for garden stakes, martial arts, and more! Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org email@example.com for more info...

Aseda Raw Honey is a favorite on hill snack for Oakley White-Allen and Tansnowman. Panda Poles has teamed up with Aseda to help launch the Aseda Athlete Program, which exhibits the talents of athletes who are more than just athletes. They are ambassadors of the raising of consciousness consumerism. This short film by Fletcher Hukari demonstrates the power behind Aseda's buzzing energy.
Thanks to Fletcher, Anthony, and the entire Aseda Team!

02-10-12 | EXTREME ALPINE DOWNHILL SKI TRAINING 101
Take a ride atop the head of Panda Team Captain Oakley White-Allen as he soars into the 2nd place seat on the podium at the 2012 Canadian Freeskiing Championships in Revelstoke, B.C. Oakley placed 2nd behind Kye Petersen, with Panda athlete Drew Tabke following closely in 3rd. Oakley also took home the Sickbird award for his smooth skiing and flawless line in this event hosted by both the Freeskiing and Freeride World Tours.
After three days of heavy weather and delays, the skies cleared to a perfect blue in Revelstoke, B.C. yesterday, creating perfect conditions for the Finals of the 2012 Canadian Freeskiing Championships (freeskiingworldtour.com). With Panda Team Captain Oakley White-Allen leading the charge skiing an incredibly fast, dynamic, full throttle line, Panda Poles athletes found their way onto the podium in 2 of the top 3 spots. Scoring just a few hundredths short of Oakley's 2nd place score of 79.00 points was the "Flyin' Hawaiian" Drew Tabke, who made the 2,500 vertical ft. venue of "Mac Daddy" seem more like a playground than the monster of a slope that it is. New to the Panda Tribe, Cliff Bennett rounded out the top ten, skiing a fast, powerful, fluid line in the finals. Taking 1st in the men's category was The talented, young, Canadian superstar Kye Petersen, hailing from Whistler, B.C. who scored an impressive 83.03.
With no hesitation, Angel Collinson--member of the Panda Tribe--skied a daring close-out line, ending in a mandatory 30 footer. A line that was not only impressive to watch, but boosted her into the top seat for the women, scoring a 72.40 over Crystal Wright's 71.57 and Jess McMillan's 69.67 final score.

The action at the Canadian Freeskiing Championships was unsurpassed, with a venue that makes most mountain faces look like hillsides. Panda Poles sends its congratulations to all the athletes who made the podium at this jaw-dropping event and sends a special shout out to the athletes who support Panda Poles and help further legitimize our organization and what we're trying to achieve. Many thanks to Revelstoke Mountain Resort, both Freeskiing and Freeride World Tours, and the event sponsors (The North Face, Black Diamond, Subaru, Sierra Nevada, Swatch, Powder Magazine, and Backcountry.com) who make these events possible.
